Description
Data-Tronics Systems Analysts are involved with complete project work in all
areas of business data processing and problem solving. From the beginning, our analysts are
involved with projects that have a serious impact on the success of ABF and Arkansas Best
Corporation. This includes significant contact with clients and management, systems analysis and
design, programming, implementation, and user orientation to the system.
With our total project approach, responsibility is from start to finish. Analysts are given a great
deal of autonomy. This approach creates an extensive exposure to upper management within Arkansas Best
Corporation and its subsidiaries very early in a Systems Analyst's career.
A wide spectrum of opportunities is available in the form of Internet, client/server, personal computer,
and mainframe online and batch applications. Data-Tronics provides a full range of information technology
services to different clients within Arkansas Best Corporation and its subsidiaries, whose needs vary.
Because of these variations, the Systems Analyst is continually exposed to a diversity of challenging
assignments. As the businesses of clients evolve, Data-Tronics's services also evolve. This enables the
Systems Analyst to become involved in the design of new applications.
Qualifications
The Systems Analyst position requires a minimum of a B.S. or B.A. degree with superior academic
achievement, a strong interest in computer information systems or computer science, and a proficient
understanding of application design and programming. Computer-related course work or work experience,
though not required, is an advantage. Other qualifications include sound analytical, organizational,
problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Training
The Systems Analyst position is a challenging and exciting role within Data-Tronics. Our new analysts
are immersed in a comprehensive and thorough training program. The goal of the training program is to
provide the knowledge necessary to be successful as Systems Analysts. Training is a team effort that
involves a full-time training staff, Systems Analysts, and Systems Programmers.
Throughout the first six months, new analysts are involved in four approaches to training. First, each
analyst is assigned a mentor highly knowledgeable in the business and the applications that support that
business. The mentor provides the new analyst guidance and direction on any projects assigned. Second,
the new analyst attends a series of courses. The design of the training curriculum models the environment
at Data-Tronics. The courses are hands-on. Third, the new analyst is assigned projects. These projects are
business problems in the scope or nature of the new analyst's skills. The new employee works with the
customer in the design and installation of the final product. The direction given by the mentor and the
information provided through the curriculum are tied together, allowing the employee to immediately
apply what they have learned. Fourth, individual training is available through self-study material
and computer-based training.
Advancement
Following the position of Systems Analyst is Business Analyst. This promotion recognizes
accomplishment in Data-Tronics's project-oriented environment and provides increased responsibility.
The next levels are Project Analyst, Account Analyst, and Senior Account Analyst. These positions
bring even more challenge and significant project leadership.
Opportunities for supervision and administration will arise for those whose goals are oriented toward
management. The Account Coordinator position is the first level of personnel management. Responsibilities
include increased formalized authority in a particular area, customer support coordination, major project
leadership, special technical problems, education, standards, and administrative tasks. The next level is
Manager of IS. Responsibilities include direct management of systems analysis personnel and broad authority
over all data processing that supports a major customer-base segment. Only the Director's position stands
between the Manager and the President of the company.
For those whose goals are more technically oriented, opportunities will arise to move into the Systems
Programmer career path. For those whose goals are more human resources oriented, opportunities will arise
to become a member of the training staff. Because of Arkansas Best Corporation's diversified line of business
interests, there are also occasional opportunities for advancement into other subsidiaries.
